our Father, who art an artist

Our photos from snorkeling in Key Largo
Psalm 36
5God's love is meteoric,
his loyalty astronomic,
6His purpose titanic,
his verdicts oceanic.
Yet in his largeness
nothing gets lost;
Not a man, not a mouse,
slips through the cracks.
7How exquisite your love, O God!
How eager we are to run under your wings,
8To eat our fill at the banquet you spread
as you fill our tankards with Eden spring water.
9You're a fountain of cascading light,
and you open our eyes to light.

sometimes ya just gotta share ("these be funny")
i love creativity, a process that often seems to flow at its own will. i crave creating and am delighted when it happens accidentally or after months of staring at the same design, the same rhetorical pattern, or the same poem, to find it transformed in an instance. i cave in laughter when someone else's creations tickle my mind in certain ways. so i hope you enjoy these quotes from my latest batch of freshmen essays...
"A redneck is like moonshine, deeply rooted in Southern tradition and cultivated outside the law. While it is true that people of many walks of life live under the delusion that 'the rules do not apply to me,' a redneck makes it his life's battle cry. Speed limits on two-lane country roads are as relevant to his driving as the spring collection at Bergdorf-Goodman's."
"Now she has been diagnosed with mild altimeters."
"He grabbed a 'blessed candle' so they could pray. I suppose they did not remember that the ghost was not Catholic."
"I believe that God created sex for man in wife."
and they flow on and on, so so do i...

commuters are so weird
This morning on my half hour drive to work, I tried imitating various water noises. I'm not so good at it, I found.
wooshing and gurgling and dripping were okay, but when I tried a mighty wave (tried to verablize what I could hear in my mind's ear) it didn't work. Neither did river noises.
yeah, so anyway...what's new with you?

I read you like a dissertation on icicles
Some come and break you down (or off)
They eat you
crunching frozen fluid
whining about pieces of their tongue stuck to you when they finish
They do it all wrong
I don’t ingest
or in-jest you
I’ll keep my tongue to myself, thanks
when I read you, I circle
and find you come to a point (as icicles are prone to do)
I look through you because you pretend to be a lens
magnifying and distorting
giving me new perspective
shedding light on light
you remind me it’s not about you
or touching you
but about
refracting
reflecting
evolving
corrupting
and taking it all in
so, thanks, I think I will
